(HANNIBAL)—After the storm comes the cleanup and the scammers. Hannibal city officials encourage you to only hire credible, licensed companies and exercise caution before you hire.
It is hard for me to even fathom having a missing child or grandchild. Unfortunately, there are thousands of children every year who become missing. With that in mind, National Missing Children’s Day is recognized nationally each year and will be held this Saturday, May 25.
The Hannibal Police Department and the Hannibal Parks Department would like to inform the community that due to the dangers of fallen debris, brought by the recent storm, Riverview Park is closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
As the City of Hannibal continues clean up from severe storms that tore through the area on Monday night, downtown Hannibal took another step towards normalcy on Wednesday when the flood walls along the riverfront were removed. They had been in place since for over a month.
Over a hundred utility workers are busy restoring electric service around Hannibal. Lights went out shortly after 7:30 Monday evening as 80 to 100 mile per hour straight line winds roared through parts of town.
Power is still out to several homes and businesses in Hannibal following Monday night's storm. Some residents report having had difficulty in buying groceries because so many businesses are without power and closed.
The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) has been mobilized for assistance to those in Hannibal in the most need of emergency necessities after Monday night’s severe weather.
The rules of tipping in restaurants vary depending on what nation and culture you are a part of. Here in the United States 15% is considered an average tip for average service.
What most people don’t realize is that waitresses and waiters are NOT paid minimum wage. This is a fact that restaurants rarely publicize but they should.
While out of town on Sunday, I came across a beauty shop sign that read "Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow". It got me to thinking of just how many beauty salons there are and even more interesting is the names of those salons.
The Salvation Army will, again this year, distribute electric fans to those in need. The program will begin on June 3rd, and fans will be distributed as they are available in both Quincy and Hannibal.
